SWC 6-1 in Bowl Games
Whata great showing this year! All but two teams went to Bowls (and those two usually do - just had off years). Hell, even Rice went to a bowl... AND WON... and finished the season with a winning record! Total bummer TCU fell down against Sparty - we certainly could have been undefeated.

A shout-out to Aggies in White
When the Aggies defeated the Bama Beast, they had on all white. A look I could go off on about trying to be "Texas" in the SEC. However - with the new throwback inspired unis, a white helmet is fitting. Afterall, it was an actual uni of days gone by. And it looks good - even to a fan of the gray accents and the worshiped maroon.
But this wasn't the first all white Aggie uni in over three decades... They also went all white in 2009 against Arkansas (notice the sweet gray pants stripes). And now a huge win by crushing Zero U... I am liking these white unis!

Just the Facts

AGAINST SEC OPPONENTS!

Johnny Heisman

Another Heisman for the SWC! Been a while, Aggies... welcome back! Honestly, I didn't think it was going to happen - too many old guys against voting for a freshman. That in itself speaks mountains! Only thing wrong with this picture is that crappy SEC logo... arg.

Big XII vs SEC

Ho-ly Crap! I guess now we know. Aggies forever put a kabosh on that lame SEC claim regarding defense. I knew an SEC defense knew not what to do against a high-powered, fast Big XII type offense. And there you have it. Gig'em!

Aggies in Black
WTF? Only one word can describe this - sacrilidge! Glad I was doing an art show and did not have to look at this travesty. Hey Aggies, Texas Tech called they want their school color back! Stupid. Shiny - 17 year olds - stupid. And the helmet is yet another example of how a great idea can be so poorly executed. The logo is so big, you lose the southern tip of Texas??? Loved the Texas outline idea but so poorly done!!!

Lone Star Pride
Not sure where this idea came from, but Tech wore this against Texas. Such potential... but way too much going on. I have to admit this side of the helmet is kind of nice. But when paired with the other side, 1+1=dumb. In fact, this doesn't even look good. How can you take such an awesome uni concept and make it look so bad? Woof.

DKR Tribute Helmets
Here is the DKR decal Texas Football went with. I was indeed hoping for something other than a black circle with DKR in it. I was wishing for a little wishbone with DKR inside. But, how fitting is this!?! I would have to say, they nailed it! He changed football forever with the wishbone, but Darrell Royal "created" the iconic longhorn on the side image (see here for details from a previous blog of mine). Bravo! Hook'em! \m/

A Legend Leaves Us
Darrell K. Royal
1924-2012

A sad, sad day. I know my dad his having some lively conversation with him right now! RIP, DKR!

Uni Freak Show
It's been a weird couple of weeks. There have been purple chrome helmets and Baylor unis with no gold. Tech broke out some bizzare Texas Pride unis against Texas that if you picked any one or two of those elements might have been cool, and A&M wore all black, pure sacrilege! Check the full blog for my rant about the Aggies wearing black.

146-3?
Well, not quite. But SMU scored a school record of 72 points against Houston... fueled by nine turnovers, of course. Certainly not the worst SWC thrashing - but SMU does hold the flip side record. In 1916 SMU was on the receiving end of a 146-3 whipping by - wait for it - Rice!

And OU still sux!
Red River Rivalry weekend is on us! I really just have one thing to say...

What time is it?

SWC Saturday!!!
Three SWC match-ups for you today! I love how the A&M/Arkansas announcers are making this SEC game ALL ABOUT THE SWC! But what the hell is this and this? Ahem... Longhorns wear all white!

A&M pummels SMU
Perfect SWC match-up today. SMU got trampled (pun intended... if Peruna could trample). At least they looked good in Dallas - I mean really, look at these boots! Good to see some things never change! As for the unis, the only thing wrong with this picture is the stupid black tights ruining both teams' looks! By the way, if you like those boots, looks like you can get some for your SWC team from these guys!

Purple returns to TCU
Today's helmet tweeted shows the scales, but with a nice fat purple stripe (and no stupid Nike douchebag blood red)! Make sure you look on the lower left column for the "In the Wash" entry on all of this year's unis!

SWC Opener - Baylor/SMU
Unfortunately, Baylor's pummelling of SMU may encourage more of these crappy black unis...The only thing acceptable is that classic gold helmet. Boy, SMU sure looked good (even though Nike doesn't know how to make UCLA stripes)... well ummm, their unis did! I wonder if June Jones got confused to who he was coaching... black is not a school color (especially in Texas... in the summer)!

New Unis for Ags Honor 75-77
In the shadow of trashing traditions, they decide to honor one of the most unique football unis in the history of college football. The new unis (still Adidas) have the double shoulder stripe of those historic unis from the mid to late 70s. It also utilizes the striped undersleeve born by Uni-Watch readers - although, I suspect there will be some serious alignment issues between jersey and undershirt. Glad to see a stripe on the pants - but I will always be a fan of multiple stripes. I don't even mind the gray bevel highlight... That is the direction they want to go with the aTm logo - I hope they dump that idea! This was a techFit reveal, so I don't want to get my hopes up that the new helmet WON'T have the bevel logo.

All in all, the ONLY REAL problem with this uni is that crappy SEC logo on it!

In the Wash
U of Beveled H: Lots of jicky lines and odd shaped leg panels, blame Nike for that. Not sure about the Hot Wheels shine treatment on the helmet, and of course I hate the new beveled logo. Saving factor is the Robertson Stadium patch.

Rice and Adidas: Not much difference, but definitely not as good. School name is smaller and the stacked Adidas logo looks horrible. Does not appear to be the right color of blue either. And I am still missing the stripes on the pants!

SMU new striping: Someone claims that new unis do not facilitate UCLA stripes (but I beg to differ #QuitMakingExcusesNike). Aside from that, bonehead move to dump the name of your school... little horses belong on pants! Maybe they were trying desperately to outnumber the Nike logos... Speaking of pants... where exactly have all the stripes gone?

Arkansas Barf Fest: Just effing horrible! The full set is a non-traditional yawn fest.

Aggies ode to the 70s: as mentioned in my earlier blog entry, I really like it! Except for the matte helmet finish...

Kudos

10.29.09 - I just stumbled across your website... it's great!! -Eric

10.13.08 - Susan, I love your web-site, SWCFootball. -Jay B

09.03.08 - I had to chuckle whena I read that SMU is going back to their "roots" by sporting white helmets. If they truly wished to go back that far, they'd wear all red (leather or plastic). As a native San Antonian, I remember their uniforms from the Doak Walker-Kyle Rote-Pat Knight era: red helmets (no stripes), red jerseys (no stripes), white numerals, and gray pants. No blue at all to be seen. (For what it's worth, in the 1940s I watched many a high school game with Rote and Knight in the backfield for the Jefferson Mustangs.) Much to my father's annoyance, each football season I'd plaster the windows of the family car with those Humble Oil giveaway pennants in SWC team colors. As I recall they were placed on the outside of the windows and made for difficult removal (once the season was over, that chore was mine). Keep up the good work. -Warren Thompson, Lebanon PA

09.03.08 - BTW, Susan, that’s an amazing site on SWC you have. Good work. -Justin in AR (via Uni Watch)

07.04.08 - I love your SWC site. I've put up a season-ending wrap the last two years: the final SWC standings, using Jeff Sagarin's rankings. Hope you'll check it out. Go Owls! -John Cunyus
